SSD drive is 2x faster than a raptor or six times an average drive. This is not for OFP2 but development work, I'm still using and old 8800GTX 768Mb graphics card (waiting on DX11 hardware Nov-Dec). Recommend the Corsair H50 liquid cooler to anyone over air cool, pros, sealed for life, simple to install, cheap, very efficient. Cons, need a six inch (120mm) fan exit point from case (I Dremel'ed my case to fit it). cost about £50 The Corsair H50 liquid cooler (seal for life) next to the Enemax Galaxy 1000w which was from a previous upgrade, both in the top of the Lian PC70 case. I dremel cut out the old 2x 80mm fan outs to a single 120mm and placed a grill over the hole. Image is pre cut , just with the grill in place for marking the cut ;) 12 Gb of OCZ GOLD DDR3, cheap as chips today, 12Gb costs around £130 UK. DDR3 Tri-Channel - PC3-12800 Case front, sprayed the two upper bays with Satin black car paint from auto shop, rest came black, 2x ICY DOCK, 2x Pioneer DVD writers, 1x Zalman fan controller & 1x Creative XiFi In place the H50 & Enemax Galaxy 1000, I added a fan to the H50 so it runs 2x 120mm fans, one each side of the H50 radiator, push pull air into the case as recommend by Corsair for max performance. First test & boot up, see the amount of free room with no air cooler, I will add some chipset coolers in due course but they are well within Tmax temps. Runs 25-28 c off load, 43-45 c full load prime95 @ 3.8Ghz OC to 3.8Ghz Full load on Prime95 Tmax 78 c off load Tmin 41 c, from cold 25-27 c tested 10hrs. Intel Core i7 975 4 core, + hyper threading. QUIRKS: with Windows7 RC 64bit Norton Internet security 2009 does not install, O/S not recognized solution: Install Norton IS 2010 beta, for now, free download. NoScream~SPARTA~
Just a quick update, 8 months on & I'm still running 3.8Ghz, CORE= 46 degrees average CPU 32 deg. Remember the i7 is an auto clock shifting CPU so if no demand is called for it will slip back to around 1.6 GHZ norm. WINDOWS 7 Beta replaced with WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE (MARCH 2010, dam beta ended). Subscribed to cable 50M from 20M for 1 year as a test (£28 offer/ month). Now thinking of building PC 2 (replacing my backup PC) but the cost of parts is a question...... Batwing~SPARTA~
Major problem at the moment for a build is RAM, skyrocketed and is not supposed to drop in price for a while...
